Orange County Register: Standup for the Cure brings breast cancer support to sand and sea

A parade of pink paddlers dotted the bay, a show of solidarity and strength.
The Standup for the Cure in Newport Beach on Saturday, April 30, gathered cancer survivors and supporters to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The annual event draws hundreds of paddlers to the Newport Dunes in the Upper Newport Bay, some partaking in the activities that ranged from paddling relays to yoga on the water, others soaking in the scenes from the sand in support.
The event, which started in Newport Beach and now is held at several locations around the country, has raised more than $1.5 million for the Susan G. Komen organization through the years.
