Jane Sussman: Our WINNER!!

We have great pleasure in announcing the WINNER of our First Monthly CONTEST:

JANE SUSSMAN wins the Drew Brophy, Artist custom painted Riviera Paddlesurf paddle!!!

Here's Jane's winning entry:

"My first time stand up paddle boarding was at the inaugural “Stand Up for the Cure” event in 2012. From that very first stroke of the paddle in the water, I was hooked! The following week, my sweet husband surprised me one of the Riviera custom pink boards. I have enjoyed boarding regularly ever since! Twelve years ago at age 43, I was diagnosed with Stage IIIb breast cancer. My treatment included bilateral mastectomies, lymph node dissection (22 were removed and 9 were cancerous), chemotherapy, radiation, breast reconstruction, hysterectomy and adjuvant drug therapy. I have always been a walker (I missed this year’s Stand Up Event because I was walking in the 39-mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, DC), but really needed to built my upper body strength following my treatments. My regimen of paddle boarding and yoga have made me so much stronger and have helped prevent the onset of lymphedema. This year, I have lost 25 pounds and am healthier than ever! My family started a non-profit foundation (www.prc-foundation.org) to raise teen awareness about breast cancer. Our daughters started the first club when I was diagnosed and they were in high school. We now have about 30 clubs in Orange County as well as others sprinkled across the country. The students know me as “the pink lady” because I almost always wear pink and I even drive the pink ribbon edition of the Ford Mustang. I love my pink paddleboard and would love to have a custom painted paddle as well! "

Our Runners Up are Pat Marchard and Dawn Cisneros

Our Next Contest will start on Friday Oct 4th so keep checking in!!!

Meet Kailea, Victory Koredry

"Hi! I'm Kailea (Ky-lay-ah) from Victory Koredry who provides those lovely pink shirts at the events. It was great working with Judie and the team at the Race for the Cure, including being the impromptu photographer! It was a great event and it was stunning to see the survivors and realize how many people Breast Cancer affects. But it was a very positive and uplifting event and was great to see so many people supporting this cause and the survivors. I, along with everyone else at Victory Koredry, look forward to working with Stand Up for the Cure to continue to raise awareness and funds and teach about the sport and safety of stand up paddle."DSCN0226
